Job Description: Family Locum Solicitor / Legal Executive
Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Family Locum to join a reputable firm of solicitors in Huddersfield on a temporary basis. This role will run for approximately three months, providing coverage until we recruit a permanent candidate.
As a Family Locum, you will be responsible for handling a diverse caseload, including divorce and ancillary relief matters, as well as legal aid cases. The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge and expertise in family law, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a full mix caseload of divorce and ancillary relief matters, ensuring that all cases are handled efficiently and effectively.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings related to family law, including hearings, trials, and settlement conferences.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to clients, keeping them informed about the progress and developments of their cases.
  • Conduct legal research and stay up-to-date with relevant legislation, regulations, and case law in family law practice.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including divorce petitions, financial disclosure forms, settlement agreements, and child custody arrangements.
  • Liaise with other legal professionals, such as barristers, mediators, and social workers, to collaborate on cases and achieve the best outcomes for clients.
  • Attend meetings and negotiations with opposing parties to reach amicable resolutions, where possible.
  • Handle legal aid cases and assist clients in accessing the appropriate resources and support.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, ensuring that all documentation and correspondence are appropriately filed and organized.

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor / legal executive with a strong background in family law, ideally with a minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in handling a diverse caseload of family law matters, including divorce, ancillary relief, and legal aid cases.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and case law in family law practice.
  • Strong advocacy and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent clients effectively in court proceedings.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, managing multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in drafting legal documents and preparing case materials.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions, while also collaborating effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with legal aid procedures and the ability to handle legal aid cases efficiently.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.

Whats on offer:

  • This is a temporary position for approximately three months, covering until a permanent candidate is recruited.
  • The hourly rate for this role will be between £30 and £38, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Working hours will be 37.5 hours per week, with some flexibility required based on the demands of the caseload.
  • Additional benefits, such as holiday pay and pension contributions, will be provided in accordance with statutory requirements.
