Company Overview:

We are recruiting for a leading law firm based in Sheffield, with over 350 staff dedicated to providing exceptional legal services across a wide range of practice areas. As they continue to grow, the firm are now seeking an experienced Head of People to lead the human resources function and support the development of a positive, engaging, and a high-performing workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Head of People, your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Strategy and Leadership:
  • Develop and implement an innovative people strategy in alignment with the firm's business goals and objectives.
    Partner with senior leadership to understand and support their talent and resourcing requirements.
    Provide guidance, advice, and coaching to management teams on all people-related matters, including performance management, employee relations, and talent development.
  1. Talent Acquisition and Retention:
  • Oversee the end-to-end recruitment process, ensuring the firm attracts, selects, and retains top talent.
    Develop and implement a comprehensive onboarding program to support new hires in acclimating to the firm's culture and values.
    Implement effective retention strategies to reduce employee turnover and drive engagement.
  1. Performance Management:
  • Design and implement a robust performance management system to track employee progress and ensure regular feedback and development opportunities.
    Oversee the annual performance review process, ensuring a fair and transparent approach to evaluating employee contributions.
    Support managers in addressing performance-related issues and devising appropriate development plans.
  1. Learning and Development:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive learning and development strategy to support the ongoing professional growth and development of all employees.
    Identify skill gaps and provide targeted training programs to address areas of improvement.
    Facilitate ongoing feedback and mentoring opportunities to support career progression and personal development.
  1. Employee Relations:
  • Establish and maintain positive and constructive employee relations through open communication, proactive problem-solving, and fair resolution of workplace disputes.
    Ensure compliance with employment legislation and best practices, including GDPR and Equality Act 2010.
    Provide guidance and support on all matters related to employee relations, including disciplinary and grievance procedures, absence management, and employee well-being.
  1. Compensation and Benefits:
  • Design and manage competitive compensation and benefits packages to attract and retain top talent.
    Conduct regular benchmarking exercises to ensure the firm's offerings remain competitive within the legal industry.
    Oversee the annual salary review process and manage the firm's overall compensation budget.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree or CIPD Level 7 qualification is preferred.
    Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably within the legal industry.
    Demonstrated experience in managing complex HR functions, including talent acquisition, performance management, learning and development, and employee relations.
    Strong knowledge of UK employment law and best practices.
    Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
    Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with employees at all levels within an organization.
